About Us

Vision & Mission

Vision

To see a society with sustainable health solutions, with upright, empowered communities, full of hope and compassion and free of HIV/AIDS.

Mission

To bring about positive changes in peoples living conditions and behaviours, through capacity building initiatives for church leaders and community members in HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support and impact mitigation in QIC/UEC communities in Nigeria.

Our Philosophy
STILL WATERS believes that religious leaders and groups in Nigeria play a powerful role in shaping the attitudes and behaviours of their communities. We believe that people in organized groups receiving services are best served when programs are designed, developed, delivered and governed by representatives of their communities. Through dialogue, training and technical assistance, church groups can shape community health, and help grassroots communities plan effective HIV/AIDS/Reproductive Health programs.

Not only do we believe that the church has the resources, and influence to make a difference, we are convinced that the church is mandated to make a difference. STILL WATERS believes that HIV is a call to servant hood, a call to build holistic partnerships in a world of AIDS with Christ like humility and compassion.

Organizational History

STILL WATERS (SW) is the national working body of Qua Iboe Church/United Evangelical Church (QIC/UEC) of Nigeria (CAC registration number 498), with the support of Mission Africa UK, responding to the emerging HIV/AIDS/Reproductive Health issues of orphans and vulnerable children, youth and adults in Nigeria.

We believe that God’s Word is the hope for both the infected and not yet infected. The essence of what we do is spelled out in our name;

  Supporting The Infected Life Long, Warning All To Eliminate RiskS.

Linda Abwa
Programme Director
STILL WATERS

The organization started in 2001 as QIC/UEC’s response to the rising prevalence of HIV/AIDS deaths in its communities. The church’s policymakers put in place a ‘Leadership Mobilization Strategy’ to ensure involvement of its pastors; it engaged them in a series of HIV/AIDS seminars organised by the Christian Health Association of Nigeria (CHAN), Grace and light International and The ECWA AIDS Ministry. This resulted in setting up of its National Response Committee (NaRC) on AIDS to strengthen the work of SW and work with the body to develop the QIC/UEC HIV/AIDS strategic policy and plan, which was drafted by December 2005.

We work in all the communities where QIC/UEC has a presence - that is - every state in Nigeria. Our Head Quarters are in Abuja, but through zonal managers, Area Coordinators, Superintendency Action Teams (SATs), Local Action Groups (LAGs), QIC/UEC hospitals, QIC/UEC Theological Colleges and other community outreach programmes, we ensure that our national programme makes local impact. STILL WATERS is involved in training and supporting these teams to counsel, test, do Home Based Care (HBC), run community prevention programmes, and fundraise/plan for sustainability. Nigeria has over 3 million people living with HIV. 19% of our young people are infected, threatening not only their own, but the nations future. 800 people die from AIDS every single day in Nigeria. However, we walk with the God of the impossible in the midst of the storm, and we believe We Will Make A Difference.
