It is difficult to
read the stories of People and families struggling with the
challenges of HIV/AIDS, without feeling that you want to do
something to help. However, the AIDS crisis seems so overwhelming
that it is hard to know where to start. There is no need to be
overwhelmed however, whether you are in Nigeria, or across the world
there are many ways to be involved in saving people from drowning in
the flood of HIV. Have a look at the articles and resources below
and see what you can do to make a difference. |

PRAY |
Men in Nigeria are often hard to reach through outreach and teaching
programmes. Their ‘bread winner’ and ‘head of the family’ status
may restrict their time, and their passion to be involved in ‘care’,
which is traditionally the sphere of women. You can pray for God to
begin raising up men who will have the passion and courage to be
involved in STILL WATERS.
|
|
HAVE COURAGE |
Perhaps you are a man who has the courage to be involved.
You have the power to influence other men to take up the challenge.
STILL WATERS has resources for you to organise a ‘courage to change’
programme in your area, contact us for a ‘courage to change’
package. If you are a man outside of Nigeria and feel that you
could work with men to influence them to make a difference, why not
contact MISSION AFRICA for information on placements with STILL
WATERS.
|
|
LEAD |
Are you a church leader? Then get the teaching and resource building you
require to make a difference in your area. STILL WATERS will be
happy to give you information on the ‘Footsteps of Moses’ events
coming up in your area, just contact us for details.
|
|
GIVE |
Help by funding events in your local areas to reach men with correct
messages about HIV. If you want to give directly to the ‘courage to
change’ and ‘Footsteps of Moses’ projects you can do that too.

WORKING WITH WOMEN
|
|
Women are not only more vulnerable to becoming infected with
HIV; they are also carrying the greatest burden of caring for those
who are infected. They often do this with no prompting or extra
resources. STILL WATERS aims to give training to women so that
their willing compassion will be informed, and yield greater
benefits to their communities. The SHICE project is training
counsellors and home carers, so that we may met the needs of all,
even in the most rural of areas. Most of the people we train in
counselling and caring are women. Our Refresh programme works only
with women, giving them the skills to talk to their children about
sexual health issues, and encouraging church women’s fellowships to
raise funds and practical help for orphans through our sponsorship
and ‘orphan school bag’ projects. . If you are interested in
empowering women to make a difference consider the following ways to
be involved. |
|
PRAY |
The power of women to influence their children and communities is often
hidden and therefore not fully utilised. Ask God to impact
communities where women are undervalued, and to raise women who will
lead their peers into empowered roles that will change the HIV
crisis in their communities.
|
|
EMPOWER |
Perhaps
you are a woman who is aware of the strength of an empowered woman.
Contact STILL WATERS about how women in your community can benefit
from the SHICE training programme. If you are a woman outside
Nigeria, you may feel that you have the skills to come and make a
difference by training women to counsel and care. Contact our
mission partners MISSION AFRICA for information about placements
with STILL WATERS in Nigeria.
|
|
REFRESH |
You
don’t yet believe that you as a woman can really make a difference
in the fight against AIDS? You need REFRESHED! Contact us about
the Refresh events in your area, so that you can get involved.
|
|
GIVE |
Although women have already been helping their communities without
outside resources, they can do a more comprehensive job if they have
HIV testing facilities, and home based care kits. If you want to
make a donation of these medical resources please correspond
directly with the STILL WATERS director in Abuja. If your donation
is monetary, please

STANDING WITH YOUNG PEOPLE
|
|
Youths are the most vulnerable group to infection in Nigeria,
and the most important for the future success of Nigeria. “Purpose
Driven Youth” is our young people’s reproductive health program
which goes far beyond simple HIV information dissemination. We know
that youths are vulnerable to peer pressure, sexual violence and
incorrect information about protecting themselves from STIs.
Therefore we seek to give the skills they need to stay safe and the
resources they need to influence their peers positively If you are
interested in giving skills to young people to take up the AIDS
challenge consider the following ways to be involved. |
|
PRAY |
Youths are surrounded by media images that suggest sex is success and
part of a carefree life. Girls are especially at risk, harassment,
rape and sex for favours or monetary gain, are on the rise in
Nigeria. Pray for right thinking about sex, influenced by sound
biblical teaching, and pray that this results in behaviour change
for young adults.
|
|
INFORM |
If you are a young person interested in educating your peers about HIV
then contact us to receive information about raining near you, and
how to get appropriate resources. If you are not in Nigeria, but
have good communication skills and are creative in teaching, why not
contact MISSION AFRICA about opportunities to serve wit STILL
WATERS.
|
|
DRIVE |
If you still don’t see the need to worry abut HIV, and think every one
must die sometime, so why worry? Contact STILL WATERS to be part of
our purpose driven youth programme in your area. Come and learn
that your life has purpose and you are worth protecting.
|
|
GIVE |
The purpose driven youth project employs multimedia resources, and seeks
to build youth friendly centres; this is requires large funding
