STILL WATERS Impacts...

Women: STILL WATERS impacts women infected and affected. One example is Joan* who is a woman living with HIV. With careful counselling and health advice Joan lives positively and she is impacting other women by volunteering with STILL WATERS to tell her story. STILL WATERS impacted Joan, and now she impacts many others.

Youth: When STILL WATERS visited churches in Kogi State it was the youth who answered questions about HIV correctly, yet it is youth who remain at highest risk. STILL WATERS made impact with these young people by investigating there needs, and plans are underway for a youth friendly centre which will benefit the youth of the whole community.

Families: John* and Dorcas* have been married for 3 years. Dorcas is HIV positive, and because they know their HIV status before marriage they have been able to protect John. He is still HIV negative. now that they want to start their family, STILL WATERS is providing counsel, referrals and drug support so that they can have the best chance at being a healthy family. Only 1% of HIV negative mothers in Nigeria receive drugs - STILL WATERS impacting this dire situation.

Pastors: In Plateau State one pastor gives testimony of how he suspected some of his members were infected but did not know how to handle it. STILL WATERS gave him the skills and resources to impact his members that are living with HIV/AIDS; he is now counselling, visiting and giving welfare assistance when needed.

Churches and Community Outreach: After training representatives from Aba, Abia State, the trainees went back to their own home churches and communities and formed a committee. They got all the educational information they had been taught to use, translated them into their own local language (Igbo) and local context, and arranged a series of seminars for all the churches and communities in their area. Awareness is being raised in local churches and communities, by local people because of the skills building and resource mobilisation STILL WATERS carries out.
